Pizza Burger Open-Face (Print-Friendly Version)

# What You'll Need:

→ Meat

01 - 1 pound lean ground beef

→ Bakery

02 - 4 English muffins, cut in half

→ Oil

03 - 1 tablespoon olive oil

→ Produce

04 - 1 small yellow onion, chopped

→ Sauces and Cheese

05 - 1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
06 - 1 cup pizza or marinara sauce

→ Spices and Seasonings

07 - 1 teaspoon kosher salt
08 - 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
09 - 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
10 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

# Step-by-Step Directions:

01 - Lay the halved muffins on a rimmed tray with the cut side up. Toast them for about 5 minutes until they get a bit golden. Then take them out and switch your oven to broil.
02 - Place the rack about 15 cm from the broiler and heat the oven to 175°C. Chop up the small yellow onion.
03 - Warm the olive oil on medium-high in a big pan until it shimmers. Toss in the chopped onion and cook while stirring sometimes for about 5 minutes until soft. Add the ground beef then sprinkle Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir and break up the meat with a wooden spoon until browned, a little crisp, and fully cooked, which takes roughly 5 to 7 minutes.
04 - Pour the pizza or marinara sauce into the pan. Let it cook for about 3 minutes so it thickens up a bit.
05 - Spoon the beef mix evenly onto the toasted muffins. Scatter shredded mozzarella on top. Broil for 1 to 2 minutes until the cheese is gooey and bubbly.

# Helpful Notes:

01 - Keeping the rack 15 cm away from the broiler helps the cheese melt evenly and get nice and brown without burning.
