01 -
Set your oven to 230°C so it starts heating up. Lightly spray a 23x23 cm glass or ceramic pan with nonstick spray.
02 -
Toss flour, sugar, and baking powder in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk and stir everything into a lumpy dough. If it seems a bit dry, add extra buttermilk. Now mix in the shredded cheese and cooked sausage gently.
03 -
Let sausage sizzle in a big skillet over medium-high heat for about 8 to 10 minutes. Stir now and then so it isn't pink anymore. Lay the sausage on some paper towels to soak up any extra grease.
04 -
Pour the melted butter so it covers the bottom of your prepared pan. Scoop the dough on top and nudge it toward the edges. Use a spatula or knife to gently mark 9 squares on top of the dough.
05 -
Bake on the middle rack for 25 to 30 minutes, turning the pan around halfway if you want even color. Take out when the tops are golden and a toothpick poked in the center comes out clean. If it browns too soon, loosely lay some foil over it.
