About 20 minutes before it’s done, sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top and let it melt while it finishes cooking.

Spread the sliced potatoes over everything, making sure they’re covered well by the meat and bean mix.

Move the cooked meat mixture to the slow cooker. Add the milk, cream of mushroom soup, kidney beans, canned tomatoes with chilies, frozen corn, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until it’s all mixed well.

Cook the ground beef with the chopped onion and minced garlic in a pan over medium heat until the meat is browned and onions are soft. Drain the extra fat.
